In the spirit of partnership and camaraderie, the Cebu Port Authority is challenging cargo-handling operators, dockworkers and port users to a four-kilometer fun run around the Cebu Baseport on June 25, 2011. The foot race is a culminating event of the Authority’s sports festival as it celebrates its 19th Founding Anniversary on June 26, 2011. Race time is at 5:30 A.M., which will start and finish at the CPA Admin Building parking lot along S. Osmeña Boulevard, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City. The race route covers the whole stretch of E.S. Baclig Avenue and the inner port road fronting the Supercat Terminal to the Bureau of Customs office at the international port. Race marshals will be deployed to secure the safety of the runners. Water stations will also be scattered along the route. The race features three (3) categories for participants to join in, namely: CPA employees, clients (port users) and guests (family members and friends) categories. Podium finishers from the first to third placers both in the male and female division will receive cash prizes while medals will be awarded to winners from the first to the tenth place. All finishers of the run will each have a Finisher’s Certificate that would show their official finish time on top of snacks at the finish line. Registration is free of charge. Entry forms are available at the CPA admin building lobby guard and online through the agency’s website, www.cpa.gov.ph. Deadline for registration is on June 10, 2011. Official race bib numbers will be distributed on June 23-24, 2011. Among the highlights of the CPA Anniversary Sportsfest are the on-going invitational games among teams from the CPA and the cargo-handling operators in basketball, table tennis, bowling, billiards and chess. Cargo-handling operators will also best each other in a cargo-handling competition which will be held right after the fun run. According to Engr. Dennis Villamor, CPA general manager, the invitational games are CPA’s own little way of touching base with its port partners and stakeholders. Spearheaded by CPA’s deputy general manager, Atty. Ping Uckung, the games are expected to showcase the athletic prowess of CPA's own employees and support personnel and that of the Oriental Port and Allied Services Corp. (OPASCOR), Puerto Servicio de Cebu (PSC), United South Dockhandlers, Inc. (USDI), Metro Cebu Arrastre & Stevedoring Services, Inc. (MCASSI), Cebu Integrated Arrastre (CIA) and the Cebu Arrastre & Stevedoring Services Corp. (CASSCOR). For inquiries, organizers can be reached at telephone numbers 032-4129024 and 032-2321967.
